Family Dispute Results In Death Of Individual

On early Sunday morning, May 5, officers with the Newberry Police Department responded to a shooting incident involving a family dispute, in the Nance Forest Complex in the City of Newberry around 2:48 a.m.

Once on the scene, officers found an individual with an apparent gunshot wound.  That person was pronounced dead at the scene.  The second party involved in the shooting incident was bleeding profusely from the face/mouth area.  Newberry County EMS transported that person to Newberry County Memorial Hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.

Newberry County Coroner, Laura Kneece, identifies Diamond Kennedy, 24, of Newberry as the victim who was pronounced on the scene of the Nance Forest Complex.

This incident was domestic violence related and therefore, there was no immediate danger to the public. We’re asking anyone with information on this homicide to call Midlands Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or the Newberry Police Department.

This incident remains under investigation by the Newberry Police Department, Newberry County Coroner’s Office, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).
