Inmate Escapes After Treatment At NCMH

An inmate being treated at the Newberry County Emergency Department escaped after being released.

The inmate, wearing a orthopedic boot and crutches ran from the guard as he was being put into the van. As he ran, he shed the boot and the crutches.

The escapee was captured in the bushes at White Oak Manor by a SLED agent, Sheriff’s Deputies, and Newberry City Police Officers.

William R. Koon was being held on a bond violation for charges of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor. He has been returned to the jail.
