Victims Identified In Saluda County Processing Facility Shootings

The Saluda County Coroner has identified the two persons found shot to death Monday evening at a processing facility in town of Ward.
On Monday, March 31, at 5:45 p.m., the Saluda County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting at the Darling Ingredients Inc (formerly known as Valley Protein) facility an animal processing and rending plant in Ward, SC.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered the bodies of a deceased female and male at the scene. Coroner Angie Rita identified the female as Kimberly Waters Leon, 52, of Graniteville; and the male as Willie James Hopkins, 44, of Batesburg.
Both the Saluda County Sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division’s (SLED) Crime Scene Unit were on-site, processing the scene for evidence. Preliminary findings suggest that this is an isolated incident, with no ongoing threat to the public.
Authorities have stated that further details will be provided as the investigation progresses. The incident remains under active investigation.
