As we reported late Thursday afternoon, the Newberry County Coroner’s Office along with the Newberry County Sheriff’s Department and CSX Transportation are investigating a pedestrian versus train incident that occurred at approximately 8:50 a.m. on February 27, 2020 in the 6500 block of SC Highway 76, Prosperity area of Newberry County.

Coroner Laura Kneece has identified Phillip Eli Woodruff, 16, of Prosperity as the pedestrian struck by the train.

An autopsy performed by Forensic Pathologist, Dr. Kelly Rose, determined that Mr. Woodruff died due to blunt force injuries to the head, neck and torso. The manner of death has been ruled an accident.

This incident remains under investigation of Newberry County Coroner’s Office along with the Newberry County Sheriff’s Department and CSX Transportation.
