Newberry County 911 received a call 2:03 pm that a structure was on fire on Green Acres Rd. in Silverstreet. Shortly thereafter a 911 telecommunicator received a call from the homeowner stating that he had been stabbed and the person that assaulted him set his house on fire.

Fire units from Silverstreet, Chappells, Friendly and Newberry Rescue Squad responded and extinguished the blaze. A search of the structure found a deceased victim inside.
The Newberry County Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation in the cause of death.
The preliminary investigation by the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office revealed the property owner and another individual engaged in an argument, which resulted in the property owner being stabbed. The assailant then retreated into the structure and a fire started.
Because a fatality occurred with a fire, a SLED Arson Team has been called in to assist.
