The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash of an ultralight aircraft near the Newberry County Airport.
At approximately 7:45pm on Saturday evening, Newberry County 911 received a call concerning a aircraft crash. Upon arrival first responders found an ultralight aircraft along side Airport Road and adjacent to airport property.
The aircraft had a pilot and passenger on board. The passenger received injuries and was medevaced to a trauma center, the pilot did not receive injuries that required transport.
Preliminary investigation is the aircraft did not gain enough altitude to clear power lines and the pilot put the aircraft down to avoid the obstacle.
Several Newberry County Emergency Services units and EMS responded to the scene.
