Scam Involving City’s Utilities/Finance Departments
The City of Newberry is warning residents concerning a scam involving the city’s utility/finance department. Residents have received a call from a male subject saying that their power will be disconnected if they don’t provide a credit card number immediately. This is a scam.
Residents are reminded that the utility department would never call and request any credit card or personal information from them. The scam caller has previously used the phone number 864-434-2080. If you receive one of these calls, please do not provide any information and contact the City of Newberry Police Department right away at 803-321-2222.
