Police Department Warns Of A Facebook Scam
As we reported on Friday, the Newberry Police Department advises of a scam circulating on Facebook of cloning the accounts of your Facebook friends, even using photos of your friends to be more convincing.
The scam asks if you would like to make money and if agreed to, a link will be sent to you, also requesting you to purchase an Apple gift card and submit photos of the card to receive the funds. Once the initial photos have been sent, the cycle often continues as requests for more gift cards in larger amounts.
The Newberry Police Department advises anyone of sending money to others in this way, as you will not receive money or be able to have your money returned to you.
For further information, please contact Sergeant Mike Hawkins at 803-321-1010 or emailĀ mhawkins@cityofnewberry.com.
