Man Assaults Victim With Axe, Charged With Attempted Murder
Early Monday morning, deputies were called to the 1200 block of US Hwy 176 outside of Pomaria for an assault.
Newberry County 9-1-1 was notified that a person had been hit in the head with an axe and possibly stabbed by a suspect, who subsequently fled the scene.
Arriving deputies found that William Michael Gallman had come on the property and began to assault the victim, running off into the woods. Witnesses stated that Gallman was armed with an axe and a dagger.
Deputies, SLED K-9 units, and aviation assets responded to the area. After a brief chase, Gallman was taken into custody.
Gallman, 48, of Pomaria was charged with Attempted Murder and is currently being held in the Newberry County Detention Center.
