Newberry County Coroner’s Office along with the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating the death of pedestrian struck in a tractor trailer hit and run collision that occurred at approximately 7:40 am on April 3, 2020 on Interstate 26 eastbound at the 72 mile marker (SC Highway 121) in Newberry County.

Coroner Laura Kneece has identified Emmanuil G. Khmelnitskiy, 17 years of age, of Inman, South Carolina, as the pedestrian struck. Mr. Khmelnitskiy was pronounced on-scene.

This incident remains under investigation of Newberry County Coroner’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol.
