Multiple Individuals Arrested In Thursday’s Homicide Case

 In Local News

Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster has announced the arrest of four people in the homicide of Kier Leon Marsh and the wounding of another person Thursday, December 5, 2024, on Green Meadows Drive.

Two other individuals were arrested for harboring a fugitive during the investigation.

Newberry County Sheriff’s deputies were able to identify the four suspects using a combination of investigatory techniques and forensics.

Deputies arrested Glazariq Diaz Garcia, 20, of Folk Road in Newberry, and Matthew Neal Epps, 24, of Folk Road in Newberry, in an operation on Folk Road Friday afternoon.

Austin Adam George Stanley, 20, of Sims Street in Whitmire, was arrested in Myrtle Beach during a Friday night operation. Danny Isaiah Gray, 24, of Hunter Road in Whitmire, was arrested on Mill Street in Whitmire by Sheriff’s Deputies, SLED Agents, and Whitmire Police.

All are charged with murder, attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, burglary 1st, kidnapping, and conspiracy.

During the arrest of Gray, two individuals were arrested for hiding him from law enforcement. Parrish Jeral McWatters, 34, of Mill Street in Whitmire, and Stephanie Heather Mayer, 28, of Mill Street in Whitmire, were arrested after being asked if Gray was inside their home.

Gray was located hiding under a pile of clothes inside the Mill Street residence. During the operation, a Newberry County Sheriff’s deputy received injuries after being bitten by a pit bull. Three minor children were located within the residence. McWatters and Mayer were charged with hindering law enforcement officers and unlawful neglect of a child.

Sheriff Lee Foster said this was a senseless act of violence. It is alleged that Garcia went to the Green Meadows drive location and occupied the two residents. Epps, Stanley, and Gray came to the residence a short time later wearing ski type masks, forced their way into the house and began assaulting the residents, with the intent of robbing them of their property. During the assault, the owner of the residence and his house guest, Marsh, were wounded.

Marsh succumbed to his wounds at the property and the property owner was transported to a trauma center. It is not believed that anything was stolen during this violent robbery attempt.

According to Foster, one person died, one is grievously injured, and six people have had their lives altered for absolutely nothing.

Sheriff Lee Foster stated this was a complex investigation involving old fashioned police work and modern forensics. Investigators literally worked around the clock to solve the case and bring those responsible to justice.

Foster thanked SLED, Horry County Sheriff’s Office, Horry County Police Department, Myrtle Beach Police Department, Whitmire Police Department and the Newberry City Police Department for their assistance in this case.

All individuals are booked into the Newberry County Detention Center awaiting bonding. Everyone is considered innocent until proven guilty.
