The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office issued a scam alert on Friday. There have been reports of fake jury/grand jury calls in the area.

The caller states that they are with the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office and he or she gives a name, which could be associated with law enforcement.

The caller then states that the person has missed jury duty and is subject to jail or a fine.

The caller also attempts to get personal information and claims that, without it, the individual would have to pay a fine.

This is a scam! Know that law enforcement and the Clerk of Court would never call and ask for this type of information.
