Early Morning Homicide And Attempted Murder Investigation

The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office, SLED, and Newberry County Coroner’s Office are conducting a joint investigation into an early morning homicide and attempted murder.

At 2:08 am, Newberry County 911 received a call from an individual claiming to have been shot during an attempted robbery on Green Meadows Drive, just outside the City of Newberry. Upon arrival, deputies found a male victim shot in the lower torso, lying outside the residence. The victim stated that another person from inside the house may have been shot.
Deputies subsequently located another victim in the backyard, deceased. The surviving victim reported that several black males entered the residence, began firing shots, and fled in a dark-colored sedan.
Newberry County EMS treated the victim on-scene before medevacing them to a nearby trauma center. The victim’s current condition remains unknown. SLED Crime Scene is assisting Newberry County Sheriff’s investigators in processing the scene. Sheriff Lee Foster extended condolences to the victim’s family.
Newberry County Coroner Laura Kneece identified the deceased victim as Kier Leon Marsh, 31, of Broadway, NC. Mr. Marsh resided at the Green Meadows Drive address at the time of the incident. An autopsy has been requested and will be performed shortly.
