Domestic Dispute Leads To Shooting At 1200 Block Of Wilson Road

 In Local News

Officers with the Newberry Police Department and the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting call in the 1200 block of Wilson Road on Monday afternoon at approximately 1:41 p.m.

Police Chief Kevin Goodman said it was learned that the ex-boyfriend of the victim saw a female with a male subject and began shooting into their car. As the ex-boyfriend was fleeing the scene, the male subject in the car with the victim got out of the vehicle and started firing shots back at him.

The ex-boyfriend had a 1-year-old child in the car during this incident.

After fleeing the scene, the ex-boyfriend, in a white vehicle, was stopped by deputies with the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office at the Country Peddler, about 1.4 miles from the shooting scene, and taken into custody.

The female victim in this case suffered what appears to be non-life-threatening injuries from the gunfire and was transported to Prisma Health Richland Hospital by Newberry County EMS, Goodman said.

Two subjects are in custody and awaiting charges that should come by Tuesday morning, November 26. The names and charges of those individuals will be released at that time, Goodman said. He added that this was an isolated incident and is an ongoing investigation in collaboration with the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office.

“I would like to thank the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office and the community for their assistance with this incident,” he said.
