Newberry County Coroner’s Office along with the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating a single car motor vehicle collision that occurred at approximately 11:15 p.m. on April 20, 2020 on South Carolina Highway 34, near Old Landfill Road, in the Chappells area of Newberry County.

Coroner Laura Kneece identifies Ms. Kimberly Sue Childs, 47 years of age, of Greenwood, South Carolina, as the driver of the vehicle. Ms. Childs was pronounced at the scene of the collision.

An autopsy was performed on April 21, 2020, it was determined that Ms. Childs died of blunt force trauma. It appears that Ms. Childs was not wearing her seat belt.

This incident remains under investigation of Newberry County Coroner’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol.
