Amid the negative publicity some communities and its law enforcement agencies are fielding nationwide, the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Newberry Police Department, is doing its part to maintain good community relations and working even harder to improve on them.
In an effort to continue the great open lines of communications between law enforcement and this community, Sheriff Lee Foster has announced that on October 2 there will be a community based meeting on the theme, “Coffee with a Cop”.
“Coffee with a Cop” is actually a nationwide initiative supported by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, and similar events are taking place across the country as law enforcement agencies strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.
Sheriff Foster said that the meeting will not have speakers or an agenda, instead Sheriff Foster, along with Sheriff’s Deputies and Police Officers from the aforementioned departments, will be on hand to share a cup of coffee and just talk with the public.
“It’s a great way to get to know one another and share ideas,” said Sheriff Foster. “We believe it’s important to keep the lines of communication open with the public. It’s equally important to build and maintain those relationships knowing that these partnerships are crucial to sustaining the safe communities we’ve all worked so hard to establish.”
The “Coffee with a Cop” meeting will be held in the Drill Hall Conference Room at the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office located at 550 Wilson Road in Newberry on Wednesday October 2 from 9am to 10:30am. Come have good coffee and great conversation with a “Cop”.
