As we announced on Monday afternoon, the Newberry County Coroner’s Office along with the Newberry Police Department are investigating a single car motor vehicle collision that occurred at approximately 2:15 am on May 16 at the intersection of Johnston Street and Coates Street, within the city limits of Newberry.

Coroner Laura Kneece identifies Mr. Keshad Boyd, 26, of Newberry, as the driver of the vehicle. Mr. Boyd was transported to Prisma Health Richland where he was later pronounced due to the injuries sustained in the motor vehicle collision.

An autopsy that was performed on May 18 confirmed that is appears that Mr. Boyd was not wearing his seat belt.

This incident remains under investigation of Newberry County Coroner’s Office and Newberry Police Department.
