Board Names Dr. Chan Anderson Permanent Superintendent
The School District of Newberry County Board of Trustees unanimously voted to appoint Dr. Chan Anderson as the permanent Superintendent, formally solidifying his leadership and signaling the Board’s unwavering confidence in his strategic vision for the district’s future.
Since stepping into the role of Interim Superintendent on July 1, Dr. Anderson has demonstrated exceptional commitment to stakeholder engagement across the community. He has invested extensive time in schools and the community to foster transparent dialogue, connect and engage with stakeholders.
Board Chair Lucy Anne Meetze stated, “The Board is proud to name Dr. Anderson as our full-time Superintendent. His leadership over the past several months has demonstrated both steadiness and vision. Dr. Anderson has built trust by being present in our schools, listening to stakeholders, and delivering on the commitments outlined in his first 100-day plan. This unanimous vote reflects the Board’s confidence in his ability to guide the district forward, and we look forward to continuing our work together.”
Dr. Anderson expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am honored by the Board’s unanimous vote and deeply appreciative of the support from our students, families, staff, and community partners. Newberry County is a special place, and I remain committed to ensuring every child has access to excellent teaching, safe schools, and strong opportunities for success.
Dr. Anderson continued, “We have a very important work in front of us – the work of preparing our students and empowering our educators. This work will not happen overnight. It requires a focus on the future, intentional daily decisions, a common vision, and a determination to position our students and district to win!”
As a distinguished public educator for 31 years, Dr. Anderson has served in South Carolina and Florida in multiple capacities: as an elementary teacher, basketball coach, assistant principal, principal, and district administrator. He is also an experienced superintendent and believes in people, adding value to all, and strategic alignment.
Dr. Anderson earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Claflin University and his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. He earned his Doctorate in Educational Administration from Wingate University. Dr. Anderson has been married for 28 years to his wife, a professional educator, and together they have two children who have also chosen careers in education, making education a generational commitment of service.
