The City of Newberry is excited to announce that the 7th annual Healthy Chili Cook-Off will be held February 1, 2020 in Memorial Park of Downtown Newberry starting at 11:00 am and ending at 1:30pm.

The Healthy Chili Cook-Off features individuals, teams, non-profits, businesses, civic organizations; those with a great chili recipe are welcome to compete! Teams are invited to name their chili team and just have fun with it! Winners will be chosen by People’s Choice. A People’s Choice Voting Bucket will be created for each team. For a small donation to the Souper Bowl of Caring, the tasting public will receive 2 oz. tasting cups for samples from each team and 3 different tickets, significant to the 3 judging categories. Tasters can purchase more cups for more samples, but will only receive the voting tickets once. Bowls for chili will also be for sale at the ticket booth. At the end of the cook-off, First, Second and Third place Overall will be announced. In addition, one cook will take the title of Most Original and one will take the title of best Booth Decoration. Awards include a trophy and monetary prize for each category.

As this event promotes healthy living and giving there will be aerobics featured at the event, as well as a blood drive with The Blood Connection (blood drive lasts from 9:30am to 2:30pm). Those participating in the blood drive will receive a gift and a coupon to cover the cost of your initial purchase of tasting cups and tickets from the Healthy Chili Cook-Off (while supplies last). Funds raised during the event will go to the spring break meal backpack program for local school children via the Souper Bowl of Caring. The Newberry Arts Center will also be raising funds via the Empty Bowls Project for the 2020 charity of choice.

Come join us on February 1, 2020 for a fun day to celebrate health, wellness, and the benefit of giving back to your community!
