Newberry County Coroner’s Office will be presented the Certificate of Accreditation on August 21, 2019 at 7:00 pm during Newberry County Council meeting, 1809 College Street, Newberry, South Carolina. The certificate will be presented by Richland County Coroner Gary Watts and the current President of the International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners (IACME).

On June 19, 2019, Newberry County Coroner’s Office received official word that the office received accreditation by the association. Newberry County Coroner’s Office self-submitted to this process for the purpose of ensuring the operating policies, procedures and practices are within international guidelines.

Newberry County Coroner’s Office was subjected to review of 230 standards including administrative, forensic, investigative, and facility review. IACME requires 100% compliance of mandatory standards and 90% of all applicable standards.

Per IACME, “When an agency elects to subject themselves to this process it clearly indicates their desire to stand to peer review and demonstrates to the public and stakeholders a strong desire to provide excellence in the service provision. The completion of this process which is for five years indicated a professionalism and compassion by Newberry County Coroner’s Office.”
