An 18-year-old Newberry man is accused of firing shots into the air during an event Saturday evening at Crooked Creek Park in Chapin.
The charges against Najee Thompson are pointing and presenting a firearm, use of a firearm by a person under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and breach of peace, according to Lexington County investigators.
Thompson told deputies he fired the shots because he thought the park was “the country,” according to an incident report.
No one was hurt, and no other shots were fired.
Thompson was arrested at the park, and he is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center.
Deputies encountered a minor at the park who had a gun during their investigation. He was cited and released to the custody of his parent.
