Friday Night Shooting, Two Females Injured

Officers with the Newberry Police Department responded to a shooting call at 1310 Jefferson Street in the City of Newberry on Friday night just before 11:30 pm.

Once on scene, officers found two female victims that had been shot. Both victims were transported to Columbia area hospitals for treatment. One was airlifted and one was transported by ambulance.

With the assistance of the Newberry County Tracking Team, 22-year-old suspect Zah’Kee Yahmir Clark, from Chapin SC, who had fled the scene on foot, was captured a short time later a couple blocks away from the incident scene.

Clark has been charged in connection with this case and is in the Newberry County Detention Center.

Police Chief Kevin Goodman said this was an isolated incident limited to this one location. “This investigation is still ongoing, and more arrests may be coming,” Goodman said. “We’re asking anyone with information in this shooting to call Sgt. Khadijah Gaskins with the Newberry Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at 803-321-1010.”
