Shooting Incident Leaves One Dead, Two Injured
On Saturday evening (April 20) at around 9:22 pm, officers with the Newberry Police Department responded to a shooting incident around Emory Street near Hunt Street in the City of Newberry.
Once on the scene, officers found three victims with apparent gunshot wounds. One victim was transported to Prisma Health Richland Hospital, another victim was treated on scene for non-life-threatening injuries, and the third victim died from his injuries.
Newberry County Coroner, Laura Kneece, identified Troy Leonard Sims, 53, of Newberry as the victim who died from injuries.
This homicide remains under investigation by the Newberry City Police Department, Newberry County Coroner’s Office, and the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED).
