A crash on I-26 in Newberry County on Saturday afternoon continues to be investigated.

Details are still limited about the crash that happened near exit 72, but the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office did confirm that there were “many” injuries that also led to two medical helicopters being called in to assist.

Sheriff Lee Foster thanked fire and rescue units from multiple stations, emergency medical services, animal control, and the Newberry Police Department for their assistance.

He also added that the crash is now being investigated “as a possible criminal act and as a traffic accident.”
