Car Crash Victim Identified In Sunday Morning Accident

Newberry County Coroner’s Office along with the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating a pedestrian versus motor vehicle collision that occurred at approximately 2:00 am on March 01, 2020 on Interstate 26 westbound at the 83 mile marker in the Pomaria area of Newberry County.

Coroner Laura Kneece has identified Timothy Hudson, 45 years of age, of Newberry, South Carolina, as the pedestrian struck. Mr. Hudson was pronounced at Prisma Health Richland on March 5, 2020.

This incident remains under investigation of Newberry County Coroner’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol.

One person has died after a car crash on I-26 West this past weekend.

The accident happened on Sunday shortly after 2 am near mile marker 83, close to the Little Mountain exit for SC Highway 773.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a 1997 Chevy SUV pulling a trailer was disabled on I-26 when a 2014 Ford Mustang was traveling westbound.

Two people were standing behind the Chevy when the Mustang hit them and the SUV.

One of the two pedestrians died after being airlifted to a hospital in Richland County.  This person has not yet been identified.

The second pedestrian was also taken to a hospital but is expected to recover.

This accident remains under investigation.
