UPDATE: Victim Identified In I-26 Head-On Collision
The Newberry County Coroner’s Office along with the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision that occurred Thursday evening at shortly after 9:00 pm. The collision occurred in the westbound lane of I-26 at mile marker 82 in Newberry County.
Coroner Laura Kneece has identified Phyllis Green, 82, of Newberry as the passenger in the vehicle. Mrs. Green was transported to Prisma Health Richland where she was subsequently pronounced. An autopsy has been scheduled.
This incident remains under investigation of the Newberry County Coroner’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol.

A head-on collision that happened Thursday evening around 9 pm has claimed the life of one person. Two individuals were injured after the accident on I-26 West near the 85 mile marker.
According to the SC Highway Patrol, a Honda traveling westbound on I-26 was struck head-on Thursday night by a vehicle traveling east in the westbound lanes.
The Honda driver (17) and the driver traveling east (84) were both wearing seatbelts and taken to the hospital with injuries.
The passenger in the vehicle driven by the 84 year-old was entrapped and had to be mechanically extracted from the car. The passenger later died after being transported to the hospital.
