UPDATE: Three Men Arrested In Homicide; Victim Identified

UPDATE as of Wednesday afternoon:
Three subjects, Keonte Montrez Caughman, 20, of Newberry; IJavion Cheek,
17, of Newberry; and IMaurion Lil’Travis Cheek, 19, of Newberry have been arrested in
connection with a homicide that occurred in Newberry on Monday, May 19.

On Monday, officers with the Newberry Police Department responded to a shooting call in the
1800 block of Charles Street in the City of Newberry around 3:15 p.m. Once on scene, officers
found a victim with an apparent gunshot wound(s) and it was determined that she had died from
her injuries.

Newberry County Coroner, Laura Kneece, has identified Breanna Bates, 25, of Newberry, as the
victim. An autopsy has been performed, confirming Bates died as result of a gunshot wound(s).

Police Chief Kevin Goodman said more arrests may be coming as this is an ongoing
investigation. He asks anyone with information in this homicide to call Midlands Crime
Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or the Newberry Police Department.

The Newberry City Police Department, Newberry County Coroner’s Office and the Newberry
County Sherrif’s Office are investigating this incident.
