Three people were injured after a small plane crashed in a field in Union County, South Carolina.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office said emergency personnel responded Tuesday night after a plane crashed in the 3100 block of Old Buncombe Road around 7:15 pm.

Preliminary information indicates the aircraft experienced a mechanical issue while in flight.

Officials said the pilot attempted to divert to the Union County Airport, but the aircraft was forced to land in a nearby field.

The sheriff’s office said there were three people on board at the time of the incident. All three occupants were taken to a local hospital by EMS with non-life-threatening injuries.
