Mike LockabyMike At Nite

Mike Lockaby “ Mike at Nite” was born in Union SC. His family moved to Newberry when he was 5 months old.  He graduated from Newberry High Class of 72 and studied business at Piedmont Tec.  He started his radio career at WKMG while in the tenth grade working on air on afternoon and weekends.

Mike claims he has come full circle… he explains that he grew up with WKDK and as a small child he often imagined the singers performing live at the station.. (giggle) ..” My family did not have records or a record player so I did not know they were recorded..”

In the sixth grade Mike visited the studios of WKDK with his class and he knew right then what he wanted to be when he grew up.  By that time of course the family had two record players and quite a collection of records. “I spent most his play time pretending to be a radio DJ sitting in front of a mirror and a paper towel roll on broom handle as his microphone spinning the hits”..!

Mike moved to Columbia in 1978 and has served as air talent for many radio stations since then.  WCOS-AM Position 14 and the Great 98 WCOS FM for nine years.  He was on Three Texas stations KGKL and KKCN both in San Angelo Tx (syndication)  and KICKS 99 in Midland Tx (syndication).  He served as air talent on New 92 WWNU FM, Country Legends 94.3 WWNQ- FM(now the DUDE) all in Columbia SC and 93.1 The Lake in Lexington SC.

“It really feels great to be back home where it all began!” Mike says.. “I have come full circle!”
