Stranded People Returned To Safety Saturday Evening
Late Saturday afternoon, rescue squads from Chappells, Newberry, the Water Rescue Team and Department of Natural Resources (DNR) were searching for several stranded people on the Saluda River near Chappells.
The floaters became stranded after a severe thunderstorm came through the area. DNR had a boat on the river in a remote area. It was reported that all of the people were fine and just needed extricating.
The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office Telecommunicators were on the phone with them and provided GPS information.
Soon afterwards, all of the floaters on the Saluda River were returned to the landing.
