Single Car Accident Claims Life Of Newberry Man
A one-vehicle collision that occurred Monday evening shortly after 6 pm resulted in a fatality.
The collision happened on US Hwy. 76 near Jalapa Road, when a driver of a 1998 Jeep SUV was traveling east and then drove off the right side of the highway. The driver then proceeded to overcorrect, resulting in the vehicle crossing over the center line and overturning.
The driver, Shunolon Antwan Battle, 39, was dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for this week, and there is no evidence that Mr. Battle was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident.
The collision remains under investigation of the Newberry County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
