Second Shooting Suspect Captured On Tuesday Afternoon

The second of two suspects that were involved in a multiple shooting incident in Greenwood was captured this afternoon by Newberry County Sheriff’s Deputies.

Early in the morning Greenwood County Deputies were pursuing a vehicle involved with the shooting of three individuals in the City of Greenwood. Once in Newberry County the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot inside the Town of Chappells.

One of the suspects was captured by SLED agents and Deputies using canines.

The other suspect was trailed near the Saluda River in very difficult terrain and extremely heave underbrush, but the trail grew cold. Later in the morning, SLED agents found an area in a dense are of foliage where the suspect had been and tracked him along the Saluda River. Again the trail became cold. Deputies remained in the area hoping the suspect would come out.

Later this afternoon, a citizen saw a person that matched the suspect near Sharpe Road between Chappells and Silverstreet. A deputy in the area began searching and found him on the edge of the woods.

The suspect was turned over to Greenwood County.

Both suspects are in custody in the Greenwood County jail.

 

Original story: In a report that we received at around 1:30 am Tuesday, Law Enforcement from Greenwood County and Newberry County are conducting an intensive search at the intersection of SC Hwy. 34/SC Hwy. 39 in Chappells following a shooting of multiple individuals in the City of Greenwood. Greenwood County Deputies were given a description of a Kia automobile that was involved in the event. Greenwood County Deputies gave chase and the vehicle stopped at the Chappells Crossroads with two subjects fleeing in the woods toward the Saluda River.

The suspects are described as black males, one slender build wearing blue jeans pants, the other shorter and stockier build wearing khaki pants and a black shirt. It is not known whether they are armed, but due to the nature of the crime, the suspects should be considered armed and dangerous.

Greenwood County and SLED tracking teams are being utilized as well as aviation assets.
