Search For Carlos Baca Continues

Newberry County Emergency Services and Sheriff’s Office are continuing to search for Carlos Baca. Baca was reported missing yesterday at Dreher Island State Park. Baca and several friends had entered a closed portion of the park and set up a tent camping site. The last time he was seen was 3:00am Sunday morning. Baca took his keys and wallet, but left his cellphone. Park Rangers contacted the Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Services around 9:30am Sunday morning.

Rescue Squads from Newberry County, Park Rangers, members of the SC State Guard Search and Rescue, DNR, and Sheriff’s Deputies conducted an extensive search of the area. Sonar searches were done in the waters adjoining the campsite and an aerial search was done by a SLED helicopter.

Park Rangers and Sheriff’s Deputies continued to ride the area through the night.

Baca is described as an Hispanic male, 22 years of age. He is 5’10” and 170#. He was last seen wearing a camouflaged pull over, light jeans, and white shoes.
