Saturday Night Crash On I-26 Results In Fatality
A crash on I-26 at around mile marker 72 resulted in a fatality late Saturday night.
According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper Brandon Bolt, a 2014 Kia was travelling westbound on I-26 at around 11:15 pm, when the driver veered off the right side of the interstate, striking the guard rail. The driver then swerved to the left side of the lanes, striking the cable barrier. The car overturned and the driver was ejected from the vehicle.
Coroner Laura Kneece has identified Antonia Francisco Tino Delacruz, 20, of Sumter, as the decedent in the collision. It does not appear that the driver was wearing his seat belt, and there are no reports of any other serious injuries.
This incident remains under investigation by the Newberry County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
