Recent Shooting Incidents In Newberry
On Thursday, March 10, officers with the Newberry Police Department responded to a shooting incident in the Fair Street area. Once on scene officers learned that a dwelling had been fired into at least one time. The occupants of the dwelling were unarmed. On Sunday, March 20, 2022, officers with the Newberry Police Department responded to a shooting incident in the Charles Street area of Newberry. Upon arrival we learned that one male victim had sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to the hospital for treatment. This is an ongoing investigation, and we are asking for anyone with information in this case to contact the Newberry Police Department at 803-321-1010.
On Sunday, March 20, 2022, officers with the Newberry Police Department responded to a shooting incident in the Crosson Street are of Newberry. The victim in this incident was not shot but did sustain minor injuries. The subject in this incident is Heath D. Hughes (18yoa) of Newberry SC. Mr. Hughes has been charged with Attempted Murder, Breach of Peace of High and Aggravated Nature, Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime.
On Wednesday, March 23, around 9:30 pm officers of the Newberry Police Department responded to a shooting incident near the Lee Street area. Once on scene officers located several shell casings in the roadway and observed that an occupied residence and an unoccupied vehicle had been struck by the gunfire. No one was injured by the gunfire and the incident is still under investigation at this time. On Thursday, March 24, 2022, at approximately 10:32pm, officers with the Newberry Police Department responded to a shooting incident on Pearl Street in the Mollohon section of Newberry. Upon arrival, officers found two gunshot victims. First-aid was immediately rendered to the victims until Newberry County EMS arrived on scene. The victims were then transported by Newberry County EMS for medical attention to non-life-threatening injuries.
Police Chief Kevin Goodman said this investigation is in the very early stages and asks for anyone that may have information, to please call 803-321-1010 or Crime Stoppers. All tips will remain anonymous.
On Friday, March 18, 2022, officers with the Newberry Police Department responded to a shooting call at the intersection of Main Street and Heritage Drive. It was learned that an apparent road rage incident had taken place that resulted in the victim being physically assaulted and shots being fired into the victim’s vehicle. The victim in this case suffered non-life-threatening injuries from the physical attack. With the assistance of the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect vehicle along with four suspects were located just outside the city. The following subjects have been charged in this case with Breach of Peace High and Aggravated and Strong-Armed Robbery:
