 In Local News

In a remarkable achievement, Newberry Health has earned a spot on the prestigious list of the Top 100 Rural Hospitals in the United States as the #1 Rural Hospital in South Carolina for 2025.

This acknowledgment comes as part of the annual Becker’s Healthcare report, based on the findings of the Chartis Center for Rural Health. The list, which was released on February 12, 2025, highlights the nation’s top rural and community hospitals for their exceptional performance and commitment to high-quality care.

“Our focus has always been on delivering high-quality, patient-centered care, and this recognition validates our commitment to the community we serve,” says John Snow, CEO of Newberry Health. “It is a privilege to be part of a team that consistently strives to improve the health and well-being of our patients, and we are proud to continue serving as a trusted healthcare provider in rural South Carolina.”

The INDEX Assessment
The Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX is an in-depth metric designed to measure a hospital’s performance in various key areas that matter most to rural communities. For the 2025 list, the evaluation focused on several factors, including: Inpatient market share, outpatient market share, quality, outcomes, patient perspective, cost, charge and finance.

The recognition as a Top 100 Rural Hospital in the U.S. is a significant achievement, particularly for hospitals in smaller, rural communities. Hospitals that are named to this list are often seen as benchmarks for others, providing models of operational success, patient-centered care, and
innovative practices. Their recognition not only reflects their performance over the past year but also serves as a testament to their ongoing commitment to providing accessible, high-quality healthcare services to rural populations.

“Thank you to our patients and their families for trusting us with their care,” Snow continues. “Together, we’re building a healthier future for our community.”
