“More Than Decent” Film Fest This Weekend!
A film festival is this weekend in Newberry!
Having a film festival in this area was a dream of Dean “Dino” Gangale, who was a lover of movies in general, and an advocate for the independent filmmaker. His wife Michele has wanted to follow through with this festival in his memory and honor.
The focus of this festival (called “The More Than Decent Film Festival”) will be the independent film and their makers. Three feature films will be shown, all of them connected to the Newberry area in some way.
This festival is all weekend at The Ritz Theatre in downtown Newberry…beginning Friday evening, and continuing through Sunday.
The doors open at The Ritz at 6:30 on Friday night, at 1:30 on Saturday afternoon,
and at 1:30 on Sunday afternoon.
Friday night’s feature film is “What Matters” (rated R)
Tensions rise as a young man faces complicated issues centered around a racially charged rally. Violence and political injustices threaten the balance of his world; however, with the help of a mentor, he must navigate his way to college and learn a deeper lesson.
Saturday’s feature is “Alienography” (rated R)
In March of 1958, the sleepy town of Mars Bluff, South Carolina was hit by an atomic bomb. Believed to be an accidental bombing, this historical moment became nothing but town folklore. That is until four friends uncover a secret from out of this world. Now a race against time they must hunt or be hunted.
And Sunday’s feature is “A Week With My Father” (rated PG)
This is a gripping documentary about the reunion of a son with his father after being apart for decades.
A screening of several shorts of varying genres will be shown before the features Friday and Saturday; and a short block will be after the feature on Sunday.
There will also be Question and Answer sessions with the makers of the features and some of the featurette films too.
Admission is $15 per day, and just $30 for a weekend pass.
