Newberry College has appointed Whitney Metz to the post of assistant vice president for institutional advancement, effective Dec. 2.

“Newberry College is such a special place to me and to so many other people,” said Metz. “It is a privilege to get to serve those who love it so dearly. Together we will make a great and lasting impact on the College.”

An Irmo native, Metz graduated from Newberry College in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in history. As a student, she was active in the Student Government Association, All Campus Entertainment, the student ambassador program and Kappa Delta sorority. She went on to obtain a master’s in higher education business administration from the University of South Carolina in 2014.

Metz returns to Newberry from the University of South Carolina, where she has served as senior director of development for student affairs. She also has fundraising experience from previous posts at the University of Tennessee and The Citadel.

“Newberry is so fortunate to have an alumna and advancement professional like Whitney coming home to advance the mission of our college,” said Lori Ann Vinson Summers, vice president for institutional advancement. “She brings great energy and knowledge of higher education advancement to our campus, and I expect her to build deep relationships with our alumni and donors.”
