A driver is dead after a head-on crash in Newberry County on Friday evening.

Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway of the SC Highway Patrol says the crash happened at around 8:40 pm on SC-39 near Brannon Road, about one mile south of Chappells.

The driver of a 2018 Ford pickup was traveling north, crossing the center line and hitting a tractor-trailer head-on.

Both drivers were taken to Newberry hospital, and the driver of the pickup succumbed to the injuries. It was reported that the crash victim was from the Cross Hill area in Laurens County.
