Clinton Firefighter Dies In Crash Responding To Call

A firefighter with the Clinton Fire Department was killed in a crash just before noon on Sunday while responding to a call.

According to the Clinton Fire Department, Engine 1202 was responding to a call when they were involved in a crash at the intersection of Springdale Road and Willard Road, near Clinton High School.

Reports indicate that one firefighter was flown to Spartanburg Regional Hospital for treatment.

The Laurens County Coroner’s Office identified the other firefighter as Michael Vinson, 27, of Laurens. The cause of death is pending autopsy and investigation.

According to the SCHP, the fire truck was driving east on Willard Road, when they collided at the intersection with a 2006 Lexus that was traveling north on Springdale Road. The driver of the Lexus was transported to an area hospital.
