Authorities Continue To Investigate Hoax Active Shooter Calls

 In Local News

Law enforcement from across the state are investigating a series of hoax active shooter calls.

A call was received about an active shooter and causalities at Newberry Middle School shortly after 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 5.

The active shooter response plan was initiated, but the School Resource Officer and school staff realized this was a hoax.

At about the same time, FBI and SLED notified Sheriff Foster and began sending out alerts about widespread hoaxes of similar nature across the state and nation.

Authorities are investigating if it was part of a Tik-Tok challenge or a conspiracy to cause disruption in services.

Sheriff Lee Foster said that whomever did this (and regardless of what reason) should be charged with making terrorist threats.
