Arrest Made In Tuesday Morning Shooting Incident

 In Local News

Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster has announced an arrest in the murder that took place early this morning at a local industry.

Sheriff Foster said that investigators were able to develop a suspect in the shooting. During the search for the suspect, the suspect and his attorney came to the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office.

Ultimately, the suspect was taken into custody and was charged with the murder of the victim, Javoka Jekel Toland.
The murder occurred as a result of ongoing dispute between the two men.

The suspect was identified as Shunolon McKenize Renwick, 23, of 3708 Maybinton Road, Whitmire, SC. Warrants were served on Renwick this afternoon charging him with Murder and Possession of a Firearm During a Violent Crime. He is in custody at the Newberry County Detention Center. An initial appearance will occur tomorrow in the Magistrates Court and the bond hearing will be held at a later time as the charge of Murder must have bond set by the Circuit Court.

“This is such a waste and unnecessary,” said Sheriff Lee Foster. “We are living in a time where people find it easier to take one’s life rather than seeking other ways of settling arguments”.

Law enforcement again affirmed that this was not a case of an active work place shooting, but a dispute that ended tragically in the parking lot.
