Tax Bill Information Availability

County Auditor Donna Lominack announced October 20th that Newberry County
property owners may access their 2025 tax bill immediately, either through her office or
via the internet. Lominack is promoting the availability of tax bill information this year
due to the uncertainty of delivery dates for printed notices.
As County Auditor, Ms. Lominack is responsible for issuing property tax notices, but not
until after councils representing the County, the School District and municipalities have
approved their budgets, and only after property values have been set by other state and
county officials.
“All of the budgets have been passed,” said Lominack, “and all of the entities have acted
within reassessment-year requirements under the law.”
Obtaining property values, however, was made more difficult this year, due to state
requirements that counties re-value, or “reassess,” property for tax purposes every five
years. Specifically, the County Assessor and her staff were tasked with providing new
values on more than 30,000 land parcels, residential properties and commercial buildings.
“Melissa (County Assessor Mote) and her staff worked on a tight schedule to complete a
big task,” Ms. Lominack commented. “But as happens commonly with reassessments,
there wasn’t enough time for them to meet the deadlines that apply in a normal tax year.””
With the Assessor’s work now completed and the valuation information loaded to the
County’s financial software, the baton is passed to a contractor who will print the new
bills and stuff them into envelopes. From that point, everything is up to the US Postal
Service. But Lominack insists that taxpayers don’t have to wait while the new notices
work their way through this process.
“Property tax information is something people want to know as soon as it’s available,”
Lominack said. “We can’t control schedules for printers, envelope stuffers, or the US
Post Office,” she continued, “but we can do everything otherwise possible to make this
information available to the taxpayers.”
In an effort to reach out to taxpayers, Ms. Lominack has made information concerning
the new tax bills available 24 hours a day on Newberry County’s web site at
www.newberrycounty.gov. Online Payment. She says she has also prioritized the efforts
of her staff toward answering inquiries made directly to her office, whether in person or
by phone.
“If someone wants to know their taxes for this year, we will make it a priority to get that
information to them,” Lominack concluded.
The County Auditor’s office is located at 1400 Martin Street in Newberry, and the direct number is 803.321.2105.
