Teenage Male Arrested For Series Of Unlawful Auto Entries

 In Local News

Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster has announced the arrest of a 13-year-old male in connection with a series of unlawful auto entries.

Between late Thursday night and early Monday morning, eleven vehicles were entered in the Glenn Street extension area adjacent to the City of Newberry. The vehicles were ransacked and various small items were removed.

Investigators of the Sheriff’s Office identified and arrested the 13-year-old male.

Sheriff Foster said that none of the vehicles were physically broken in. The juvenile went around and found unlocked vehicles and then made entry. If the juvenile came upon a locked car, he would move on to his next vehicle.

Sheriff Foster credited investigators working with SRO Deputies, which are out of school over summer holiday, citizens with video cameras, other concerned citizens, and the City Police Department with helping to identify the suspect.

Nine of the vehicles were entered in the county and two were entered in the city limits. Investigators are continuing to investigate this case.

The juvenile was turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice for disposition.
