“Towns In Tune” Is This Weekend!
The City of Newberry will soon host visitors from Bay Bulls, Newfoundland, Canada as part of the upcoming Towns in Tune filming weekend. Held September 27-29, Towns in Tune is a local public television program presented by SCETV.
Towns in Tune connects two communities from different countries by blending their unique histories and includes live music from Newfoundland and South Carolina. This year’s sister cities were chosen as Bay Bulls and Newberry.
The weekend will kick off Friday, September 27 in Memorial Park with a wine/beer walk hosted by the Newberry Downtown Development Association. At 5 p.m. the Newberry Arts Center hosts an artists showcase featuring local artists on Boyce Street in front of the Newberry Opera House. Various food trucks will be available downtown to share local bites with the community as well as kids’ activities hosted by the city’s Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department.
An opening ceremony featuring both the American and Canadian national anthems will begin at 6 p.m. followed by remarks from Mayor Foster Senn.
The Brendan Roberts Band will take the stage following the ceremony and provide entertainment through 8 p.m.
Those with tickets purchased through the Newberry Opera House are then invited to the 8 p.m. show of Corey Smith inside the opera house.
Other events as part of the weekend include the Grow Newberry Farmer’s Market on Saturday, September 28 at 9 a.m. followed by a free concert by Bluegrass Remedy at 9:30 a.m. and JD Boatwright on stage at 11:30 a.m. Both concerts will be held in Memorial Park.
A ticketed event, the Towns in Tune concert will take place at Willingham and Son’s Building Supply (6807 SC Highway 219) that evening at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through the Newberry Opera House.
The concert features performances from both local artists and those from Canada.
To cap the weekend, the Artist5, a unique cultural experience will be hosted at Newberry Opera House. South Carolina and Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada collaborate to create a unique immersive experience – interpreting an author’s published story through corresponding works of music, visual art and culinary creations.
