Coroner Identifies Victim In Multi-Vehicle Collision

Newberry County Coroner Laura Kneece has identified Hector A. Colorado Cogua, 70, of Columbia, SC, as the victim who died in the multi-vehicle collision on Sunday evening on I-26. The collision occurred near mile marker 88 on I-26 at around 7:40 pm on Sunday.

An autopsy has been requested and will be performed this week.

The incident remains under investigation by the Newberry County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

A multi-vehicle accident that happened on Sunday evening resulted in a fatality, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway.

This happened at around 7:40 pm on Sunday at mile marker 88 on I-26.

A 2017 Toyota Camry was traveling eastbound on I-26 when the driver came to a stop in traffic. The driver of a 2025 International Box truck, also traveling eastbound on I-26, slowed in speed. The driver of a 2025 Nissan Sentra, traveling eastbound on I-26 as well, struck the box truck which then struck the Camry.

The driver of the Nissan Sentra died at the scene.
