Briana Eargle Sworn In As New Magistrate
Newberry County has a new magistrate after Briana Eargle was sworn in by Clerk of Court Beth Folk on Thursday, June 25.
Judge Eargle was appointed to the position by Governor Henry McMaster following a recommendation from Senator Ronnie Cromer.
Her appointment follows the death of Judge Ronald Halfacre, who passed away in May of this year, who served as chief magistrate. Judge Laverne Brock was appointed chief magistrate earlier this month.
During her swearing-in, Theresa Halfacre, the widow of Judge Halfacre, stood beside Judge Eargle and held her late husband’s Bible.
Following the Oath of Office, Judge Eargle said Judge Halfacre was an amazing man who meant a lot to her and she had very big shoes to fill but pledged to serve the people of Newberry County with the same integrity and dedication that Judge Halfacre demonstrated throughout his years of service.
